- The UK Wood Packaging Marking Programme
-
The UK Wood Packaging Marking Programme is meant to enable the identification of timber used in the packaging of products.
- The programme, itself, is overseen by the United Nations, and is not limited to the UK in it's scope.
- The programme's aims
- The Wood Packaging Marking Programme is intended to identify the source of timber materials, this does not extend to proccessed material such as plywood (Current variation by Australia), particle board and the such like.
- Timber material complying with the requirements of the scheme will have to be subjected to one of two treatments: this is to ensure that the timber is pest free and does not transmit diseases from one country to another.
- The treatments that are considered to be acceptable are:
- Heat treatment - this involves the timber to be dried in a kiln oven at a core temperature of the timber to 56C for a period of a minimum of 30 minutes.
- Fumigation with Methyl Bromide - Methyl Bromide, whilst being an effective treatment, is harmful to the environment and living beings. Currently, scientists are looking for a more acceptable alternative to Methyl Bromide, but; that may be some way off.
-
Who oversees the programme?
- In the United Kingdom, the programme is care-takered by The Forestry Commission (for England, Scotland and Wales) The Forestry Commision.
Northern Ireland has it's own supervisory body: Tel 02890 524116 or Fax 02890 524380.

Juspaq Ltd. What are we doing?
- Juspaq Ltd, became a participant member of The UK Wood Packaging Marking Programme in March 2003.
- This means that any current customers or prespective customers can rest assured that consignments will not meet with additional delay or costs (China possible variation).
- In view of the detrimental effects of Methyl Bromide: the company has elected to use heat treated timber when manufacturing its cases.
- We feel that the use of chemicals should be avoided, unless there is no viable alternative, at all times.
- All timber products used, by Juspaq Ltd, are obtained from renewable resources, and reflect the Companys' concern for the environment. All Wood Packaging used is ISPM 15 compliant.
